Current Reading List

I absolutely love reading autobiographies by successful women at the top of their field. Below is a list of what I’m currently reading but some of my favorites from the past year have been Priyanka Chopra’s “Unfinished”, Mindy Kaling’s compilation of short essays “Nothing Like I Imagined”, and Anna Kendrick’s “Scrappy Little Nobody”.

Finding Me: A Memoir by Viola Davis

I love reading memoirs about successful women at the top of their fields. Some of Viola Davis’ roles like Woman King and How to Get Away With Murder have deeply inspired me as an artist, and learning about her journey towards finding confidence has made me appreciate them even more. To know that she came from dire poverty and overcame so many obstacles in order to build the legacy that she has, has given me so much respect for her.

The main premise of this book is that rather than singular events that change careers, it’s the steady and consistent “slight edge” you cultivate over time using discipline that will get you further in life. Especially in the world of acting where we are constantly “waiting for a big break” it’s healthy to take stock and remember that it’s the small actions over time that take you to the next level.

My Life in Full by Indra Nooyi

She was so impressive that people couldn’t help but notice and support her.
